Ceramic braces are crafted from aluminum oxide, a compound renowned for its exceptional hardness and seamless integration with tooth enamel. Aluminum oxide can be shaped into either a monocrystalline structure, producing a transparent yet somewhat fragile bracket, or a polycrystalline structure, which offers translucency combined with greater durability compared to monocrystalline types. Ceramic brackets are an ideal option for patients with severe metal allergies, especially to nickel, or for those who prefer the aesthetic appeal of non-metallic braces. However, it's important to note that ceramic brackets are more susceptible to chipping or fracturing compared to their metal counterparts, necessitating extra caution regarding food choices for our patients.
